Easter Weekend
4-19-07 - Dan Epley
Rachelle and I went back to Nebraska over Easter weekend. Rachelle spent the weekend at her mom and dad's house. Baxter stayed up there, he really enjoys the farm and playing with Skippy all day long. I'm sure he likes annoying the livestock as well.
I went back to my mom's place to put in the underground fence for JJ and the new puppy Mollie. I was able to cut a slice in the dirt and grass around most of the yard except for across the driveway and back in the pine trees. The dirt around the pine trees was still full of frost because of all the shade. So I was unable to finish the job I went back for, but I was able to help put in the 6' tall wood fence in the back yard. We were able to get the fence up pretty quickly, although some of our panels didn't fit without some cutting. It was a successful weekend for fencing I thought.
I was able to put in a lot of time with Trev, especially at the kids play equipment at the Big Apple. It was pretty tiring running around there with him all hunched over. I lost my breath a couple of times, but it was still a lot of fun to hit all the slides with him. It was really great to teach him how to climb up the netting "stairs" they have set up as well. By the end of the night he didn't need me near him to climb up.
Check out all the Easter weekend photographs. There's plenty of Trev to go around!

Latest News
3-5-07 - Dan Epley
Well you should be use to it now. It’s been a loooong time since I’ve put in the time to write anything up. You think I could at least get something up here once a month. Of course a lot has happened since my very old last post. We were almost stuck in Nebraska longer than we had planned over Christmas. The ice storm that came through was crazy, I wouldn’t be surprised if I never see anything like that again. Rachelle and I were able to get out of Greeley and give Jeremiah a ride to Lincoln. He had a flight back to Arizona the next day so it really did work out that we were able to get out on the roads.
Once we got back into Bloomington, MN things got off to a quick start for me. I had a job offer from Toro (The lawnmower/snowblower company) the day we got back. I originally accepted the offer, but decided to go on the interview I had scheduled for that morning. Apparently I was somewhat impressive since he gave me an offer within 24 hours of the interview. I can honestly say I am glad he gave me the offer because this new job is fantastic. I now work for First Scribe, doing web development and quite a bit of SEO (Search Engine Marketing). It’s a lot less design than what I’ve done in the past, but it’s still a fantastic job. I feel like I’m challenged every day I go into work, which makes the days fly by.
We got right around 2 feet of snow here about a week ago. I heard this morning that it broke the previous city record of 3” in 24 hours, which I find hard to believe. Knowing me, I probably had clogged ears and heard something wrong. Anyways, it was a lot of snow. I borrowed the next door neighbors roof rake so that I could get the large amount of snow off of the roof. I can honestly say that I had no idea there was such a thing as a roof rake, nor that I ever thought I’d be pulling snow off my roof.
Lastly, but maybe most important for our photo gallery endeavor, I’ve put up a new photo gallery layout which will make it easier for Rachelle and I to put up photos quickly. If you have any pictures you want to see up just send them to me and I’d be happy to put them into the gallery. So make sure you check out the new gallery!

Baxter joins us in Minnesota
7-16-06— Rachelle, Dan
Lots of updates to make! Check out the photo gallery because we have added quite a few pictures. Here's a quick rundown of what they are all about.
Some of the house pictures are from before we moved in and some of the work we were doing to it. I took lots of pictures of the lawn…or what there was of the lawn so that in a couple years when it is beautiful we can look back at how far we have come with it! We lived in the house for about three weeks before we owned a mower, and we closed on the house and started working on the inside about three weeks before we moved in…and it rained at least once a week for each one of those weeks we did not own a mower…so you can imagine how tall the grass was, and how the weeds were growing like crazy!
There are some pictures of Rachelle's visit to Washington DC, not that you couldn't figure it out from the pictures. We also have pictures of our last visit to Nebraska over Memorial Day, picts of Tom and Carmen's wedding and, of course, of Trevor. Also during that visit we had a shower for Terry and Kari, and picked up Baxter!
Yep, we have a dog! We also have NUMEROUS pictures of him…probably close to 100 of them by now.
There's also a short gallery of Jennifer, Cody and Trev's visit over the 4th of July weekend. Jen and Cody got the short end of the stick when it came to pictures...it's hard to move the camera off Trev when he's making faces. The Hydrangea in the photos is one that Craig gave us from Mary's funeral. We planted it right out in front of our house.
So hit the photo gallery and look around…we'll try to add pictures more often now that the “office” is officially set up, and we are 90% unpacked!

Our First Home
4-28-06— Rachelle
Well, we did it. We finally took the steps to become all growed up…and bought a house! If you would have told me 5 years ago that I was going to buy a house in a suburb of Minneapolis, I would have said you were full of it…for that matter, if you would have told me two years ago when we moved up here we would be buying a house, I would have said you were full of it! But the time felt right, we really like this area and we are sick of renting. So in February we started looking at houses…got bummed out a few times because other offers were taken over ours, or houses we liked were bought before we could put an offer down, but finally the stars aligned.
It's a cute tri-level (which, in case you didn't know is like a split level home, but with one additional level) in a really nice area. It only has a one car garage, but what sold us was the back yard. It's gorgeous! It backs up to a lake and has a lot of trees and bushes (I have lilacs!).
We do have a lot of work to do though…mainly because I married a drywaller who notices EVERYTHING! Dan hates “popcorn” ceilings, so all the ceilings have to be re-done before we can move in. Also, smooth walls are a must and “bad patch jobs” must be gotten rid of so we will end up painting the three bedrooms and the bathroom.
We got done with the closing and back to the house yesterday (4/28) about 2:30…and at 10:30 last night we finally went back to the apartment to go to bed! It was a long day. We had to cover all the floors in plastic, along with the walls in the living room, kitchen and dining area since we are not going to paint them. And while we were covering the floor in the main bedroom, Dan noticed a seam in the wall…which led us to find out that one of the walls in the bedroom had been wallpapered at one time – then painted over. So we tore all the wall paper off that one wall, and made more work for Dan to do!
Then there's the yard…I'm really upset that Mother Nature decided to make it rain all weekend. I had planned on fixing the yard while Dan was inside “mudding” the ceilings. For some reason the previous owner covered half of the yard in woodchips! So my first order of business in the backyard is raking up the woodchips and seeding some grass. Then there are the twigs all over the front yard, and the crab grass throughout. If any of you remember Winnie Warner – I just keep thinking she'd have a hay-day weeding my yard. J Anyways, we are going to need to do some weed control and major re-seeding this year. The good news is we have a “Cherry Blossom” tree (I don't know if that is the proper name for the tree, I just know everyone calls the red-ish pink flowers that are on the tree cherry blossoms). Our neighbors also told us that we will have lots of deer coming up to eat our crab apples – which is fine since I'll never eat them :-)
I also found out that we have 4 lilac bushes – which I absolutely love – and some day lilies and hostas. I have no idea what those are, but a green-thumb friend of ours assures me they are beautiful!
I've taken some pictures, so check out the photo album link. I'll try to keep it updated with the “renovations” we are doing, so check back every so often to see the progress. We are hoping to be moved in by the time we come back to Nebraska May 25 th . Hopefully Dan can work fast!
Our phone numbers are the same, so feel free to call and let us know when you are going to come see our new pad!

Christmas Party
12-18-05 — Dan
We went to Rachelle's company christmas party. It was a coctail, dinner, then gambling. They gave us $2,000 fake dollars and you could try to win as much as you could to try to bid in an auction for prizes including a telescope, Ipod, Hockey & Basketball tickets, Bon Jovi and so on. Anyways Rachelle and I ended the night at $11,000 so we thought we were sitting pretty good. Only one problem, some of the folks have numbers in the $40-$70k range. Needless to say, we only came out with free drinks, a meal and no prizes. It was still a great time and we both had a lot of fun.
We found out some bad news about Rachelle's car today, the Torque Converter is stuck open, the guy told us we need to rebuild the transmission, but I'll check with my sources (I'm connected, LOL) and see what our best decision is going to be. I guess we can partially rebuild, do a full rebuild, or just dump the thing and get a new (used) vehicle; Possibly a small pick-up.
I talked Rachelle into trying out black hair, check out the before and afters:
Goth look RachelleFinally, Jennifer sent me a bunch of pictures with the human laugh machine known as Trev. She also sent some Thanksgiving pictures, along as her and Cody's trip to see the next Super Bowl champs, the Denver Broncos. Check out the pictures in the Photo Album.

Nordhues clan comes to Minnesota
7-18-05 — Rachelle
More peeps from Nebraska ! This time the Nordhues clan. Brandon has decided to go to school at St. John's College which is north of the Twin Cities about an hour and a half; he had summer orientation on Friday the 15 th , so afterwards Bob, Jeanette, Brandon, Cody and Jacob came down to stay with us…that makes a total of 7 people that stayed in our one bedroom apartment! I hope the floor and the couch was nice and comfortable!! We went to a Twins Baseball game - not as good as the last one I saw since we lost. But Jeanette and I had a great time not paying attention to the game! Then we spent a full day at the Mall of America – Jeanette can give new meaning to “shop ‘till you drop,” however I don't think the twins were quite as excited to partake in the full day event, but they did get some quality time in at Camp Snoopy as well as identical Minnesota Twins t-shirts! We also went to church at the St. Paul Cathedral, then had a bar-b-q…needless to say, Saturday was a full day!! Then they left on Sunday. I'm sure you'll notice there is one child's name missing from the list above…Dylan stayed with my parents – and I'm sure he did a great job of keeping them – and the ball team that was up for Greeley Days – entertained!
Again…no pictures. I wasn't thinking!! I totally forgot to take the camera with us all weekend. I really need to get better at remembering that thing. I even had it sitting on the counter. In the words of Napoleon Dynamite, “Idiot! Gosh!”

Terry and Kerri visit
7-5-05 — Rachelle
We got visitors!! Woohoo! Not everyone has forgotten that we live in the vast northern wasteland :) Terry and Kerri came to visit for the 4 th of July weekend; they arrived on Saturday and left on Tuesday morning. Of course we had to take in a Twins baseball game – a come from behind victory…woohoo!! And the Mall of America – I don't think they were very impressed, except for Terry and the Irish store…Kerri and I had to drag him out of there so we wouldn't be late for the game! We also went to Batman Begins at the IMAX Theater at the zoo. Not only is it a good movie, but it's really cool on a 6 story screen! Then we visited one of the many lakes in the area to go fishing; we found out the dog loves to play with fish! And the best news of the weekend – they are engaged! Big brother has finally grown up and left his wild ways behind!! All I can say is…Good Luck Kerri :)
Unfortunately I don't have any pictures from the weekend because Dan was back in Nebraska and he had the camera with him. And I forgot to buy a disposable one. Maybe if my fabulous big brother or his lovely fiancé read this, they can email me some of the picts that they took. We do have more pictures of Trevor though! He's growing so fast and getting so big!!

About time for an update
5-28-05 — Rachelle
Ok. So it's been quite a while since we've updated this. For anyone who actually looks at it, sorry! So, what have we been up to since December? My younger brother had come up the week before Thanksgiving to see the Vikings play football, and that is the last time that we've had anyone come and visit us – hint hint . Other than that, not much has happened up until the past 3 months. The year started out normal enough. Spend time w/ the families for the holidays, come back & work. Etc. Etc. Then in March I decided I wasn't entirely happy with my job, so I began thinking of a career change. My last day of work was March 26 th , and I didn't exactly know what was going to happen next. Well, after a lot of resumes, quite a few interviews and a couple stressful days worrying I'd spend the summer unemployed, I got a job offer from Marketing Architects. They are a Minneapolis based advertising agency that deals solely with radio. If you want to know about the company: markarch.com. Once I got the offer, I found out my training wouldn't start for two weeks – so I went home to Nebraska . The best part was , no one knew I was coming. I surprised Terry (well, he had 4 hours notice), Dan's sister and Mom, Jenni & Connie, at Jenni's bridal shower, all my friends, Mom at work…and the funniest was Dad – almost falling off the tractor when he saw me coming down the road. Dan joined me in Nebraska later for his sister's wedding – which was beautiful!! I came back to Minnesota right after the wedding and started work. It has been going really well. It's the first time since I graduated college that I'm not doing outside sales. And with gas prices how they are, it's nice! We've also moved to a new apartment, first time since moving to Minnesota that we don't have a roommate – and it's great! I liked our roommates, but it's nice to be alone again. So…now that I have paid vacation days, and a new apartment – everyone can feel free to come visit any time!! We are waiting!

Trevor
5-25-04— Dan
It's been quite awhile since any pictures have been posted. I've put up a lot of pictures of Trevor. For those of you who don't know, Trevor is Jennifer and Cody Klinglehoffer's son, which makes him my newfew. Rachelle took a trip to Chicago for work. There are also apartment pictures and some other various pictures in the gallery. You can check out the pictures in the photo album. Not a whole lot is new around here in Minnesota, we've been getting a lot of rain up there this spring, which is always good. We've been getting out a bit since we've been told we better enjoy this weather before the snow comes toward the end of July, hehe.

Stacy Bowers
4-21-04— Dan
I just noticed we never put up the update that we had moved to Minnesota, specifically Eagan, which is located in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area.
My cousin Stacy Bowers had a little writeup in the
Lincoln Journal Star.
Pinning on a relationship
By Colleen Kenney
Tuesday, Apr 20, 2004 - 12:07:41 am CDT
He has a crush.
She's tall and blond and pretty. A real nice girl. But she has a boyfriend.
So Mark Kommers watches from a distance.
Junior year in chemistry at Kearney High, she first notices it - their chemistry. They're washing out test tubes together after an experiment. He's cute and funny. He's throwing bubbles at her, making her laugh.
Making her confused.
These butterflies don't mean anything, Stacy Bowers tells herself. Just friendship.
She phones him one night.
"Hey, uh, what do we have to do for English tomorrow?"
"We don't have anything, Stacy."
In his house, just four blocks from Stacy's house, Mark smiles. Maybe he has a chance.
Senior year at the Homecoming dance, he watches her dance with her boyfriend. She's wearing a long, silver dress. She's the Homecoming queen. Her boyfriend leaves the gym to go to the restroom.
Mark makes his move.
She smiles.
A song from The Dave Matthews Band is playing. "Crash." He holds her close, imagines she's his girlfriend.
In a boy's dream - In a boy's dream - you come crash into me -
Stacy and her boyfriend break up. She cries on Mark's shoulders.
She gets back with her boyfriend.
Mark plays football. One night after a game, he calls her and blurts it out. He loves her. She's upset. But she also knows she feels the same way.
The next morning, he goes around the neighborhood, picking flowers from yards. He puts them on her car's windshield. He tapes a penny on the window.
"What's the deal with the penny?" she asks him later that day.
"Well, it's just me making a wish on a penny that we will be together someday."
She grows confused. This isn't right.
She and Mark don't talk a lot. She knows he's disappointed. Angry.
But pennies keep showing up on her car.
The summer after they graduate, she can't take it any more. Late one night, she walks to his house and throws rocks at his second-story window. He doesn't wake up. She climbs the white wooden trellis of the porch and stands on the roof under his window. She knocks.
He opens the window and thinks he's still in a boy's dream.
"I miss my friend."
He climbs down the trellis and they talk.
All freshman year at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, they're best friends.
He joins a fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon. She joins a sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta. She breaks up with the high school boyfriend. But she's not ready for another serious relationship.
Mark waits patiently. Makes her laugh when she starts feeling homesick, when the university seems so big. They go to each other's parties. Study together. Just friends.
He doesn't date any other girl.
In the Greek system, there's a tradition called pinning. A guy from a fraternity pins his house badge on his girlfriend. One night that freshman year, there's a pinning ceremony - a guy from Mark's house and a girl from Stacy's house.
"You know, Stacy. I'm getting pinned when I'm a senior. And do you know who the lucky girl is going to be?"
"Are you talking about me?"
"Yeah. Icould see it."
If I've gone overboard, then I'm begging you, to forgive me, in my haste
When I'm holding you, girl, so close to me -
By the end of the freshman year, the Dave Matthews song is their song.
The Kappa Alpha Theta girls have chicken and rice this Monday night.
Before dessert the "hashers" -the guys who serve dinner - dim the lights and bring out a candle. The girls know this means there's a pinning tonight. They pound the tables and scream.
Someone reads a letter from a fraternity brother, telling about how he's always loved a certain girl. But no names. It's still a secret.
The candle passes around the table until it gets to Stacy, a senior everybody loves like a big sister. She blows it out. The girls cheer.
She goes upstairs to change. The girls line up on the foyer stairway, seniors at the bottom. The seniors light candles.
As the girls practice singing, someone looking out the north window by the baby grand piano sees a group of guys in suits walking down 16th Street.
They've been dating three years now. Their relationship has made the two houses feel especially close.
"They're coming! Shhh!"
There's a knock on the door. About 30 guys walk in, followed by Mark and his parents.
The girls are singing as Stacy walks slowly down the stairs in a strapless green dress.
Mark watches her. His eyes misty.
He hands her a red tulip. On the walk down 16th Street, he had picked it from a church yard.
"I finally wore her down," he says, and everyone laughs.
A lot of people look at a pinning as a pre-engagement, he says. But to them, it's more of a celebration of their love with people they love.
"But there is no doubt she is the first and only girl I'll ever love."
Then it's Stacy's turn.
She looks at Mark. Her eyes are misty, too.
"You were always my best friend, Mark. Thank you for having so much faith in me and in us. I apologize it took me so long to realize it. But I'm glad we're here."
He pins his badge on her dress, kisses her, and they hold each other so close.
Crash.

Visiting Steve Sweeney & Family
4-16-04— Dan
We went to Milwaukee over Easter weekend. Rachelle's cousin Steve Sweeney lives there with his wife and two children. It was a fun weekend with the video games, brewery tours, kustard and the Harley Davidson tour. We didn't take a lot of pictures, but the few we did, you can check out in the photo album. Just so you know, Harley Davidson wont let you take pictures in their building.
Jennifer also sent me some pictures of Trevor, along with some ones I took while I was in Nebraska in March.

Snow in Texas
2-14-04— Dan
Quite the exciting past two days. Yesterday Damon proposed to Megan...I suppose she had finally nagged him long enough.
Today's excitement is that it's snowing in Texas! It's our first encounter with snow down here. I always wondered if some Texans had ever seen snow, but I guess they get it down here too. It looks like we have a couple inches and it's passed us bye. So we wont be getting any more snow. It will probably be melted by tommorrow. Anyways, take a look at some pictures.

Medievil Times
12-13-03 — Dan
Well, I had a pretty good birthday the other day. We went to Medievil Times where they act out battles the knights of the 12th century would have fought. They also serve a nice meal of Soup, Chicken Breast, Ribs, Bread, Baked Potato and a turnover, all of which must be ate without silver wear to reflect the dining practices of these days long ago. It wasn't quite as messy as I would have pictured, but none the less, it was very interesting to eat like a very small child. During the meal the Knights battled each other raising cheers and boos from the crowd. We were seated in the realm of the green knight which is known for it's drunkards, swine and other rats of the earth. Take a look at Damon, Megan, Rachelle and I seated in this wretched section
here. I think our section cheered the loudest by far while the green knight went undefeated until the last battle. The final battle went on for quite some time while the two enemies squared off, I think it was the best fight all night. Finally the green knight was defeated by goodly knight-priest. Overall it was very entertaining and thanks again to my Mom for the gift of attending! Love Ya
Check out Medievil Times.

Christmas Plans
12-10-03 — Dan
The plan right now is to leave here on the 23rd of December and arrive in Nebraska that same day. First we'll visit Rachelle's parents and family. We'll celebrate christmas eve there for sure, as for when we'll be heading toward Kearney is yet to be determined.

Update
10-26-03 — Rachelle
Well, this is my first adventure on our website. As you can see, Dan has been doing all the updating and telling about what's been going on. But I decided to take it upon myself to get the photos updated and write an update on us. Visit the "Wedding Album" as I have scanned in all the photos that are going to be posted. There are about another 200 from the reception that aren't going to see the world wide web :-) Also look at the "Photo Album", I've taken a few more pictures of the apartment to try and give a better idea of what it looks like. There are also some family pictures we had taken, both of my family and of Dan's.
Things are going really well for both of us job-wise. We both really like what we are doing, and that makes life a lot easier. We've only had a few visitors since our venture South. My older brother, Terry, and his girlfriend were here on Saint Patrick's Day, my cousin from Wisconsin, Steve Sweeney was here in May, and mom, dad & Jeremiah came to visit the first weekend in June. Connie, Kevin & Jenni were here over Labor Day, and Todd Chandler, whom Dan went to high school with, is back from his trip over seas and came to visit us again just a couple weeks ago. Now, as you are aware, we are coming into fall and soon winter will be upon us...well, upon those of you in Nebraska. What better time to come and visit Texas than when it is 20 degrees at home, and a balmy 60 to 70 degrees here? :-)
We aren't exactly sure when we'll be back...maybe Thanksgiving...but definitely sometime between Christmas and New Years. We are coming on the time of year that we will miss all of you the most, so anyone who would like to write, call, or come visit is definitely welcome!

Family Visit
9-2-03 — Dan
Obviously it's been awhile since my last update. I still have a bunch of wedding photos that I can scan in, but its such a long process I'm not going to promise anything. I quit the sign making job I had after I decided it wasn't the career for me. I accepted a job at Fire Specialists, Inc. last Wednesday (8-27). It's an office manager job and would have me managing about 10-20 sales professionals who would be selling our products, which includes, fire extinguishers, flame out, pepper spray and cold fire.
My Mom, Kevin and Jennifer visited us this labor day weekend. All the pictures that were taken are on my mom's camera, so unfortunately I don't have a photo album to go with this weekends visit. The big event on their trip down was a faulty alternator that they had to get replaced about 20 miles from the Texas border. Luckily they were only about 2 miles outside of a town. They arrived here around seven on Friday night. Nothing too exciting happened that evening, just took them to Bennigan's, which is a sports bar type of atmosphere.
